You actually have to minimize your game and open a command prompt. (Either StartProgramsAccessoriesCommand Promp, OR StartRun(Type cmd into the run box) From there you type netstat.

New to this game, please help me get set up right.I am new to D2, but have played Titan Quest/Immortal Throne for ages. I have a true network, including a private server and multiple PCs, for our family gaming time. We don't do the online battle.net stuff, but do play multiplayer games together across the LAN. Having our own store for our characters helps to ensure nobody accidentally nuked one that is not theirs. Hence, personal directories would be better yet.I wonder, if I installed to the personal directory, and let it default to personal directories that way if I could not achieve what I am wanting. I prefer the drop calc in Atma, especially as it gives the MF modifiers after diminishing returns. They both function the same way, though Atma being older, it has a problem with certain 1.13 items in stashes (essences and tokens effectively), but they work fine on characters. Gomule doesn't have the same complication.As for stash access, a stash is a d2x file that can be placed just about anywhere since the game itself never accesses it (believe format originally created for atma).As for characters, with your desire for personal directories, I have to ask, does everyone play on their own machines typically, or do you all switch with eachother regularly?The main character file is what you need, D2 creates the additional files as needed. If everyone generally sticks to their own machine, you could simply copy the d2s file onto your server for backup, and that way you aren't putting as much of a load on the server.
Being an old game, even with everyone else running clients on their own machine, you will get slowdowns, regardless of actual machine hardware.While it be nice to see better optimization in the code, the fact that Blizzard bothers supporting a game this old at all, a new patch is better than nothing.However, about the backup character files - you may run into opposition as it MAY possibly violate one of their policies (along the lines of character editing, which it really isn't by itself.). It SHOULD be no problem at all UNLESS you plan on trading on the SPF forums.Being a joint family effort, I think it be more fun keeping the finds between the family anyway.

I agree it would be best to run the game from the PC to avoid slowdowns, and just save the character data on the network share.
I sent a message to Blizzard, but so far have not heard back from them, except that they got the support request. I will tag back in and post whatever they eventually tell me, especially if it offers a solution that accomplishes the whole goal.
Please do note, it is only for the redundancy and backup, NOT to hack a character.To answer SeCKSEgal: No, we vary what machine we may be using, providing another reason to get it pathed to a network share that would be accessible from whatever machine is being used. Two are wired desktop PCs and the third is a laptop that can work either wired or wireless. Also, there are 4 of us, and only the 3 machines, so it can vary who is logged in. Some of the characters are ones run in multiplayer, others are single player.
And the kids are pretty varied in what they are running, and change characters to suit whatever mood they are in that day. That they see theirs, and I seem mine, and from wherever we happen to be is part of the goal.If you are familiar with them, we use Roaming Profiles to the server, and repath the home directory to the server as well. The result is that wherever you work on the LAN, your folders and desktop all look the same, regardless of the machine. If you had not already guessed, I am a Windows Admin professionally, and the environment mirrors the kind of setup I would work with at a business. I am just having some difficulty getting this game to work the way I want it to.Just copying the folder to a network share would also do it, and I appreciate the suggestion. To make it more automatic, it could be scheduled with Task Manager to occur periodically. This solution would get the backup, but would still mean the characters are tied to particular machines, and fall short of being able to play 'my characters' anywhere on the LAN.And yes, we're content keeping our stash within the family.
No offense to those online, but we don't play online, and probably would never be in a market to trade. I once read an amusing post at a TQ/IM forum that describes it as 'a stamp collection exercise' or something like that. Having a multiuser repository to catalogue and organize the finds is all that we want. If anything, I would probably dupe a copy of a legit item, and just give it to somebody I knew that needed it.I think I will start with GoMule, and see how it works. If the DropCalc gets in my face much, I will take another look at ATMA. We are up to 1.13, and ATMA had some additional files, where GoMule sounded more compatible.Thanks dryzalizer, if I ever get to the point of hosting a website on the server (which my ISP would probably not allow me to do anyhow), I will drop you a post and invite you to where it is.

I was on the right track with the Save Path registry key, and my problem was in the execution. Make sure the path is available before setting the key value.duh. If it is not, or if you have a typo in the setting, it will revert back to the default value. And there may be multiple keys to change, so do a search for all 'Save Path' keys in the registry, and then double check that they are Diablo keys before modifying them. We basically just pointed you in the direction, sounds like you yourself ultimately came up with the solution.People here are generally friendly as long as you don't have an overly inflated ego - as the regulars all have one, we just keep each other in checkAtma is easier to learn, but only because its like being in game and you interact with the inventory as such. GoMule is similar, but once you get the interface down, its FAR more efficient, especially for packrats as it saves on the number of clicks to pick items up.

Also, Gomule has a convenient reporting tool that will ease the burden of cataloging all those finds.To update ATMA to 1.13 its does take a few extra steps, since gomule is a straight java install. Windows XP on 3.2 ghz dual processors with 2.5 gb ram and upgraded to Asus AH4650 video cards last fall. 21' widescreen LCD monitors, too.
The third is a loaded 6-month old high end HP laptop running Windows 7.So far, I have only died in my single player 4 times. Well, in my second single player game. The first one ended up dead in the middle of an unwinable group fight, and I had no gold to reequip with, having not dutifully stashed it in ny private stash. You need to learn limitations somehow, and nothing says limit like d.e.d dead.Gold is a real pain to acquire in the beginning - deaths or not. Thankfully it gets much easier with the levels.Oh speaking about Gold, a benefit that SP has over Bnet is that you don't lose gold in the stash on death.
Losing over a mil in Gold on a single death is a tad painful since that's otherwise gambling money. So yes, its usually a good idea to keep that gold safe =)If you or any of the family are curious about popular builds or detailed information, these forums and the wiki are a great source of information. I do think it's a good idea to at least experience the normal difficulty once left to your own devices, but if you find yourself wanting that edge, there are plenty of folks here more than happy to answer questions on top of the extensive collection of guides.And again I'm jealous - still running a xp athlon on this relic of a machine here. Why aren't you playing StarCraft 2 or something more recent hehe?
